Bjork—Volta
In a word, I love this album. This is the Bjork album that I have been waiting for ever since I heard her uber sleeper Verspertine. It nice to hear Bjork recapturing the sound that made her such a success. While I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy her more recent albums, Vespertine, Medulla and Drawing Restraint 9, they just didn’t have the vitality of her past albums. With Volta Bjork has brought the excitement back to table.
The album opens with the super-fun Earth Intruders. It’s got a great tribal beat that makes you want get up and move. Pretty much the entire album has a much livelier vibe than her last few discs. What strikes me most about Volta is how Bjork has been able to incorporate some of the more experimental elements from her recent work into Volta. Combined with Bjork’s quirky and a little morbid lyrics and you’ve got a tastey treat for your eardrums.
