Marilyn Manson—Eat Me, Drink Me
I’ve been a huge Manson fan ever since I heard Portrait of an American Family back in Junior High, in my eyes every album has been great in it’s own way. This is why I was stoked to his new album Eat Me, Drink Me. That excitement soon turned into a general state of malaise. Seriously, this is the worst album that Marilyn Manson has put out so far.
Eat Me, Drink Me is devoid of any of the dynamics and shock-rock brevity that you come to expect from Manson. Before listening to Eat Me, Drink Me I had read a little about Manson’s troubles of late… Divorce, thoughts of suicide, and a relationship that borders on pedophilia. You would think that this would amount to something interesting, worth listening to. Well you’d be wrong. Aside from Manson’s pseudo scary vocals, Eat Me, Drink Me comes off as a pretty straight forward rock album. With an over abundance of guitar solos and a deficiency of distortion and keyboards, this album has clearly missed the mark.
Manson had said that this album was a real gothic love story. I think it would be more accurate to call this Marilyn Manson’s foray into the land of emo. Here’s hoping to a much better follow-up.
