When I hear of a band that has played a show with one of my local favorites Shinyville one of the first things that comes to mind is that these guys must be somewhat off their rocker. Luckily, when I heard the debut self titled album by New York based duo Rocket Surgery I was not at all disappointed. To say the very least, Rocket Surgery is a little eclectic.
As promised, here is the video of Unexpect performing Desert Urbania live on Fearless Music. If you dig it, you should check out their 2006 debut album In a Flesh Aquarium, an excellent mesh of metal and classical. As someone described it to me, it’s like they made an entire album out of the most insane 30 seconds of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum… In case you were wondering, that’s a very good thing.
The great time change is now upon us, hazah! For most that would mean an extra hour of sleep, but for me this means that it’s 6 a.m. and I’m steadily on my way to my third cup of coffee. The problem—if you can call it such—is that I awoke from one of those awful high school flashback dreams where you are running late for school and you haven’t even started your big homework project. Those dreams are too messed up to even consider going back to sleep. So, I get up, check the clock which reads 5:30-ish which sounds reasonable enough to me. Well, it’s too late now, the coffee’s on and besides all those people I’ve mentally suppressed are waiting to get me back in dreamland, so here I am…
Puscifer, yet another side project by Tool front man Maynard James Keenan, has finally released a full length album, titled V is for Vagina. To be completely honest I had no idea who Puscifer was until I did a thorough background check via Wikipedia. The only time I’d seem the name was while skimming the soundtrack for one of the Underworld movies. From the sounds of it, Maynard is attempting to some kind of word of mouth/street team promotion on this album. This must’ve payed off for him, since the first song off the album, Queen B. debuted at #38 on the billboard modern rock chart.
Just a quick recap of how I spent my Halloween. First off, Firespring celebrated it’s annual souptacular. The potluck lunch where we all whip up our favorite soups, sides and desserts. Personally I gorged myself on three kinds of soup and plenty of sweets. I brought some cupcakes decorated like skulls, inspired by Martha’s Halloween issue.
