All Hallows Update

Just a quick recap of how I spent my Halloween. First off, Firespring celebrated it’s annual souptacular. The potluck lunch where we all whip up our favorite soups, sides and desserts. Personally I gorged myself on three kinds of soup and plenty of sweets. I brought some cupcakes decorated like skulls, inspired by Martha’s Halloween issue.

Ivy and I enjoyed our traditional pizza supper, waiting in anticipation of our first trick-or-treater… and waiting some more. The kid traffic was sporadic at best. We topped off the night at 8:30 with a grand total of 19 little goblins. This sounds like an awfully pathetic number considering I live within ten blocks of two schools, but after comparing scores with my office mates I don’t feel too bad. Our house came in second falling short by a mere three treaters.

Right after dinner we wrangled PT into his costume. Yes, we’re those people. He was a cute little Bumble Bee P. After a while, with nothing better to do and a lull in traffic we hopped over to Jim’s house to deliver some treats to his pups and (mostly) yo show off PT’s costume. We had a few more kids after we got home.

We wrapped up the evening in traditional fashion by watching a horror flick, thus concluding our month of horror movies. We snuggled up to Dead Silence, from writer/director James Wan of Saw fame. I must admit that it wasn’t half bad. It invokes a lot of the classic horror elements. Dead Silence relies less on gore and more on intimidating camera angles, dark atmospheres and fog, lots of fog. Not to mention that ventriloquist dummies are creepy as hell, almost as creepy as clowns. Though they did throw in the clown dummy for extra creepiness.
