Free Streams Via Last.fm

Wow, this is pretty awesome news, Last.fm will now have free streaming music from all four if the major record labels, EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner. This would be contrary to the tiny 30 second snippets that you can usually catch. Additionally, Last.fm will also pay independent artists when their tracks that they’ve uploaded are played. It sounds like the money train will all be ad supported, there is some lengthy explanation of how this is all proposed to work on their blog. As a Last.fm user, I am interested to see how this will pan out.

Cheers!

Alec Empire—The Golden Foretaste of Heaven

Alec Empire: The Golden Foretaste of Heaven

While The Golden Foretaste of Heaven’s sound is nothing revolutionary it does mark a new direction for Alec Empire and the DHC gang. Along with the new sound also comes a new label to distribute it—Eat Your Heart Out. With a bubbly lettered logo and a DIY ethos, Alec and the gang are primed to set the world on fire… or something to that effect.

In Response to Apple’s 2008 Keynote

Apple’s 2008 keynote speech is over and done with, pools of drool have been mopped up and the confetti has been swept away. Now that the masses have regained some composure after succumbing to fits of techno-lust the Cult of Mac must ask its collective self, were yesterday’s revelations all that great?

Looking Forward: Music 2K8 Take Two

I have some more new release news for all of you kiddies.

Looking Forward: Music 2K8

There are a few things that I am looking forward to this year, this actually comes as a huge relief to me. I had kind of figured that the world had blown its wad in 2007, and society as we know it was bound to come to a grinding halt. Of course I am full of lies, humans as a species are adaptable and we will continue to create shiny new chotchkies to amuse ourselves.

So, here are a couple of things that I’m looking forward to:

Resolutions of Doom

So, I’ve been a little negligent in updating this ol’ site of mine of late. Well, that’s a bummer because there has been plenty of things going on in this big bad world that people should know about. So in the next week or so I will try to catch everyone up to speed, so bare with me.

On the topic of the new year. I may sound a bit jaded, but who really gives a crap. The world will continue to chase it’s tail around that giant ball of flame that gives us life and skin cancer in the same stroke in much the same way it did last year and the one before that. Once the cheap champagne buzz wears off your resolutions will be forgotten, tossed out the window along with all that peace-on-earth-and-good-will-towards-men.

I Heart the Huckabees…

… but this is one Huckabee that I just can’t heart. I must confess that I really haven’t paid too much attention to the ongoing political charade that is currently unfolding. Even less so to the republican side of things, but I was not shocked at all when I stumbled across this Wired article.

The short and skinny is that republican front runner Mike Huckabee has a nasty habit of dodging the evolution questions. Playing the whole evolution issue off as a silly little theory that isn’t worth the consideration of a presidential hopeful. Let us all thank the man Bill Maher for giving Huck the opportunity to clarify his stance on evolution.
