Resolutions of Doom
So, I’ve been a little negligent in updating this ol’ site of mine of late. Well, that’s a bummer because there has been plenty of things going on in this big bad world that people should know about. So in the next week or so I will try to catch everyone up to speed, so bare with me.
On the topic of the new year. I may sound a bit jaded, but who really gives a crap. The world will continue to chase it’s tail around that giant ball of flame that gives us life and skin cancer in the same stroke in much the same way it did last year and the one before that. Once the cheap champagne buzz wears off your resolutions will be forgotten, tossed out the window along with all that peace-on-earth-and-good-will-towards-men.
With the ultimate futility of resolutions in mind, I opted to skip out on the whole thing. Instead, I chose to make lists, lots of lists. Mostly lists of things to do, short-term projects, long-term goals, and junk to buy to get my little world in order. This is in part a response to my being completely scatter-brained and feeling entirely overwhelmed by the enormous number of things I need to do. To help me facilitate this list-making venture I enlisted the aide of 37 Signals‘ web app Ta-da Lists.
I made lists for my current freelance projects and household chores. Eventually I’ll gather all the loose shopping lists I have scattered around and enter those as well. So far, this exercise has worked well for me. Whenever I sit down to work I check the list, handle the jobs piece-by-piece and slowly but surely they are getting done. Nothing is as satisfying as checking off a task. Of course, new project tasks always come up, and Ta-da List allows you to add, edit, and reorder your lists. The best part is that it is all free.
I am fully aware that none of this is revolutionary, but it was new to me, so I thought I’d share, cheers.
