3 Articles to Kick Start Your Tuesday

Courtesy of BittBox: 25 MORE Reasons You Might Be A Hardcore Graphic/Web Designer. The follow up to his widely popular 25 Reasons You Might Be A Hardcore Graphic/Web Designer. More of these are applicable than I’d like to admit.

The Human Flipbook, a nifty ad campaign from the nifty little sandwich shop franchise Erbert & Gerbert, the shop closest to my neck of the woods just went out of business… well enjoy the video:

Crystal Castles

Crystal Castles
A band that I have been spinning pretty heavily this week is Crystal Castles, and their new self titled album. This Toronto based duo produces catchy chiptune electronica straight out of your favorite NES cartridge. The mastermind behind this project is Ethan Kath who uses modded keyboards to recreate the lo-tech blips that make the Nintendo generation feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Add to that the squelching vocals of Ms. Alice Glass and you get an enticing palette of aural experimentations. The album runs a pretty wide gamut of tempos, which is pretty well illustrated in the first two tracks.

A Sweet Treat For You

The Sweet Treats

I usually don’t like recommending that you visit Myspace for the simple fact that the site is a piece of crap—if you disagree then you’ve never tried using it. I will however make an exception for this band, The Sweet Treats. A side project of Japonize Elephants, The Sweet Treats are an insanely fun band with catchy music that mixes a little techno-pop with world beats and throws in completely absurd lyrics on top of it. I can’t really think of anyone else to compare them too, which is a pretty good thing in my book. That being said, here comes the part where I tell you to check out the tracks on their Myspace page

Repo is Coming

Repo Logo

Fair warning, this is not for everyone, but if you have a seriously twisted side and penchant for the gore and overly dramatic signing, then Repo: The Genetic Opera might be for you. The skinny is that this is the theatrical adaptation of the (way) Off-Bradway musical of the same name. Basically, in a 2056 the world is full of pain-junkies and debauchery. People who can’t make the payments to GeneCo for their new organs must fear the Repo Man, who comes to take the organs back the hard way. The film gets it’s street cred from the fact that Darren Lynn Bousman of Saw fame is directing, but what I’m most stoked to see is Ogre from Skinny Puppy playing the dim-witted and effeminate Pavi Largo. With characters like like the Grave Robber and the Scalpel Sluts how could you not have a good time. Enjoy the show!

Coffee is Good for Me

…and it’s good for you too. According to recent studies the caffeine found in everyone’s favorite pick-me-up helps the body block harmful cholesterol that damage the “blood brain barrier” and can lead to dementia and Alzheimer’s. In conclusion, coffee is good—drink coffee.
