Last.FM Gets a Face Lift

It’s been a while since I visited Last.FM and I noticed today that they got themselves a new coat of paint. Personally, I dig it. It’s clean and has a some jQuery flair. They even integrated little shadows under the band photos for depth. The only thing I will ding them on is the unnecessary, and half-assed use of grunge in the header graphic.

If you check out my page you can see what I’ve been listening to lately, in addition to a gratuitous amount of NIN.

Random News, Some New Some Old

The Odd Couple

  • Weta is releasing a series of sculptures based on the Halo universe. They all look very snazzy, like the above photo featuring the 25 century’s odd couple, Master Chief and the Arbiter. Weta is also auctioning four one-of-a-kind silver statues to celebrate the occasion.
  • In movie news, fans of the Harold and Kumar films might be happy to note that a third film is in the works. via
  • Fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will likely be dismayed that MTV is remaking the beloved classic, using the original script, and some songs that had been cut from the film some 30+ years ago. via

It Came From Outer Space, and Other Cosmic News

I read about this a while ago, but it just popped back on my radar via Slashdot. Retired moon walker Dr. Edgar Mitchell spoke with Kerrang! radio regarding the existence of extraterrestrial life and their frequent road trips to our own happy blue marble. Mitchell also speaks of the government cover-ups that have been keeping us all in the dark, and his assertion that the whole thing is on the verge of blowing wide open.

Regarding this Dr. Mitchell says

Al Gore Throws Down The Gauntlet

Simply put, Al Gore is challenging the U.S. to cut it’s dependence on carbon based fuels by 100% within 10 years. He likens this to JFK’s space race challenge, which—being the hyper competitive country that America is—we rolled up and smoked in eight years. I would also like people to take note that in this speech Gore doesn’t say that we should cut our dependance on foreign oil like so many other politicos do. Gore urges us to cut our dependence on ALL carbon based fuels, which includes not only oil, but also ethanol, coal, and natural gas. This isn’t an issue of stopping the terrorist in the middle east, this is an effort to stop us from terrorizing the planet that we live on and the creatures that we share it with. Well, enough of the ranty-rants, enjoy the speech.

Saul Williams—Convict Colony Video

Saul Williams has produced a video for Convict Colony from his Niggy Tardust album. My one thought on this video is that it kind of reminds me of a mid-90’s Red Hot Chili Peppers video—you know, the one’s they made before they started to suck. Anyway, check out the video, and if you are hankering for another Saul Williams fix head over to Youtube and check out the video to his cover of U2’s Sunday, Bloody SUnday.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog Act 1 is now online, expect huge delays and server errors when accessing the site though.
Enjoy, Act 1!

Netflix + Xbox 360 = Warm Fuzzies

It was just announced at E308 that Xbox and Netflix have formed a—long rumored—partnership that would allow Xbox Live members to use their consoles to view Netflix’s “instant view” titles through their dashboard. One word, two syllables: HOORAY!!!

That’s all I had to say, now get back to work slacker. :P

Video Game Videos

Here’s a couple videos for your viewing pleasure. The first one is the spoilerific new trailer for Lucas Art’s latest attempt to milk the Star Wars franchise, Force Unleashed. So far, everything I have seen about this game is awesome, and this trailer is no different.

Next up is the recently leaked trailer for the film adaptation of Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg. 9 out of 10 film adaptations of games generally suck, but Max Payne actually looks like a pretty good film.

***EDIT***
Bungie just posted this video of a real Halo fanboy.
