Battles: Atlas

Lately it seems like I’ve been hearing Atlas on KRNU almost every time I get into my car. It’s such a great tune that I feel compelled to share it with you and you and even you. Actually the entire album is pretty great, so if you don’t have it already you might want to check it out. I can attest that whenever I’m in a particularly jaggedy mood, I pop on some Battles and it cheers me right up. I won’t go so far as to say that Battles has mystical healing properties, but more than a few people are alive and well today because of these tunes.

Will IE Ever Be Standards Compliant?

Me thinks not. At least that is the impression that I get from this article from The Register. This little bit of news should reaffirm that even though my 360 does kick ass, if Microsoft were a person he’d be a filthy douchebag.

New Crystal Castles Video

Just a quick weekend fix. 8-bit mashers Crystal Castles has released a zombified video for their remix of HEALTH’s Crimewave.

Some Friday Gaming News

  • Wal-Mart is urging the gaming industry to think green. At a “green gaming summit” Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club gaming buyer Joe Muha had a few suggestions on how to make gaming more eco-friendly. Mr. Muha’s list included some good suggestions such as developing consoles with low-power/sleep modes, as well as replacing the plastic dvd style packaging with a cardboard alternative.

  • In slightly bleaker news, it appears that there is quite a drug-culture within the world of pro gaming. The best part is that nobody really seems to care. According to the article there is a duality in the way drugs are used during tournaments. Some players bring weed along for the after-parties, while others are using amphetamines to enhance their performance in-game. Granted these aren’t exactly the olympic games, but some of the corporate sponsors might want to consider the kind of publicity they will get with such flippant disregard for the health and safety of the kids competing in their tournaments. It’s called plausible deniability and this article just shot that defense out of the water.

Every Successful Campaign Needs Politishop

G’Dub the Destroyer

Rollingstone has a nice little article on How Bush Destroyed the Republican Party.Apparently, it’s not entirely uncommon for the Republican party to tear itself asunder and rise again. It’s kind of like a phoenix that way, but instead of rising from the ashes they slap a roll of duck tape on and douse themselves in holy water to hide the bloated stench of their undead political party.
