The Bride’s Store Online Refresh

The Bride's Store

After years of having to live with the very monochromatic website that I created for a class project The Bride’s Store finally got a bit of a refresh over the weekend. While this isn’t the complete overhaul that I have been working on (off and on) for over a year, it does encompass two very important features for the store. First is the Events list—this is what was the driving motivation behind the hasty update—the store hosts various events, sales, and promotions throughout the year and their original site didn’t have a good way to display this information. So, when considering a new design, I decided to bring this information front and center. Secondly is the obligatory Hours & Location section, with this came the addition of the Google Map. The map is vital simply because the store gets customers from all over the state, and sadly not everyone is familiar with the Columbus area.

That is pretty much it for the website right now. My focus on this project was to distill all of the potential information that could go into the site down to the bits of information that needs to be there. I stuck with just two sections for the sake of not getting bogged down and eventually having the project grind to a halt. To accentuate the simplicity of the concept I wanted to keep all of the content on one page. I accomplished this by using the Accordion technique described in the Create a Slick Tabbed Content Area using CSS & jQuery article on NetTuts.

Of course, the follow up to this project will be to create a fully featured site with all of the bells and whistles that you would expect from one of the best bridal and formal wear stores in Nebraska. The question is not when will it be finished, the question is how awesome will it be when it is done.
