Just a couple of quick bits.

  • Alice Cooper and Noel Fielding of The Mighty Boosh may be teaming up to write an “acid rock gothic musical.” This sounds like a winner to me.VIA NME
  • Stereogum has an early review of Beck’s new album, Modern Guilt, and the verdict is pretty good. According to the review—and my own experience—the album is less funky fresh and a little more mournful than some casual fans would expect from Beck. Variety is the spice of life, and Modern Guilt is definitely worth a listen.

The Human Flipbook, a nifty ad campaign from the nifty little sandwich shop franchise Erbert & Gerbert, the shop closest to my neck of the woods just went out of business… well enjoy the video:

The great time change is now upon us, hazah! For most that would mean an extra hour of sleep, but for me this means that it’s 6 a.m. and I’m steadily on my way to my third cup of coffee. The problem—if you can call it such—is that I awoke from one of those awful high school flashback dreams where you are running late for school and you haven’t even started your big homework project. Those dreams are too messed up to even consider going back to sleep. So, I get up, check the clock which reads 5:30-ish which sounds reasonable enough to me. I plod downstairs and turn on the coffee pot on my way to the office where I discover upon juicing up my mac that it is actually 4:30 (not 5:30) a.m.. Well, it’s too late now, the coffee’s on and besides all those people I’ve mentally suppressed are waiting to get me back in dreamland, so here I am…

I’ve been going on and on about how awesome Neil Blomkamp’s Halo shorts are. So, if you haven’t checked them out yet I suggest you do it now. All three shorts have been collected into one—slightly longer—super tasty short.

Download the Quicktime videos:

  1. Small
  2. Medium
  3. Large

I recommend watching the large video, it’s worth the extra download time. You’ll see the amazing amount of detail that was put into this featurette. The textures are gritty, the cameras are jerky, and watching the Brutes’ hair ruffle will send shivers down your spine. If only the Master Chief were more than a ball of flame shooting across the sky…

In the ongoing saga of Halo 3 fan-boy geekdom I’d like to present a couple of videos that pay homage to the Master Chief.

First up, we have The Halo 3 Hoedown by SarcasticGamer.com.

Next is Halo Nights by Team Tiger Awesome. This one strikes a chord in my old heart-strings, since my friend Rocky and I are known to bust out an NSYNC style Bye Bye Bye complete with quacky hand wave just for shiz-n-giggles.

Earlier, I had mentioned the short films that Weta and Neill Blomkamp were creating for the Halo franchise. well the day has come and the second installment is here:

This clip is so purdy it brings tiny tears to my eyes. My coworker and I have been drooling over all the slick Halo 3 marketing tactics while at the same time thinking of ways to justify purchasing Xbox 360’s to our wives. As much as I’d love to bust out Halo 3 right away I’d like to see if the rumored benefits of the 65nm chips pan out for the 360 before I plunk down the change for one. We shall see.

Just a couple of things that I have fallen in love with this week. First off is this beautiful movie by Yannick Puig titled I Live On The Moon. A sad and whimsical tale of a boy who lived on the moon set to the music of Kwoon. Next we have the E3 media explosion from Bungie, featuring the new Halo 3 Xbox and the sleek sexy short Arms Race a group effort by director Neill Blomkamp, Bungie, and WETA Workshop. Because all good things come in threes, and I love it when things end tragically, here’s a video of an iPhone in a blender

“The moment one is truly free to begin creating art digitally, is when
the tools become transparent to the user.”

This is my new favorite quote. taken from CGSociety’s great interview with Kevin Lanning, character modeler from Epic Games who recently worked on the hit Gears of War for XBox 360.
