Video Game Videos

Here’s a couple videos for your viewing pleasure. The first one is the spoilerific new trailer for Lucas Art’s latest attempt to milk the Star Wars franchise, Force Unleashed. So far, everything I have seen about this game is awesome, and this trailer is no different.

Next up is the recently leaked trailer for the film adaptation of Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg. 9 out of 10 film adaptations of games generally suck, but Max Payne actually looks like a pretty good film.

***EDIT***
Bungie just posted this video of a real Halo fanboy.

This is a totally awesome find because I was just tasked with trying to figure out what is currently hip in “youth culture”, and I think I’ve been schooled. It does kind of remind me of the bit from Arrested Development where George Michael films himself acting out a lightsaber cough-curtain rod-cough battle in the garage. If anyone can find that clip please send it my way for comparison.

Worst Movie of 2008

10,000 B.C. is hands down the winner of this prestigious award. This is one of the lamest big studio—Warner Bros.—film that I’ve seen in a long while. The story was weak as hell—the pyramids where built by primitives who’d been enslaved by someone they thought was a god, but who is really a crusty old white guy. The rest of the plot-line is just as golden. The visuals were at least 10 years outdated—the sound stage and matte paintings were blatantly obvious. The 3D beasts were from a PBS special at best. All in all, B.C. was a movie that would’ve been great in the 80’s but is was a very poor showing by a major studio by today’s standards. The only real good thing about the movie was the trailer, which tricked me into wanting to see the whole movie… bad trailer, bad bad trailer.

Thundercats Ho!

Ah, memories of my Saturday mornings as a child wash over me. PJ’s and a big bowl of cereal, and Thundercats on tv. Like so many things in my childhood, what’s old is new and the Thundercats are no different. Here are some images that have been floating around the intertubes from the upcoming live action film starring Hugh Jackman and Jessica Simpson.

If you are interested in seeing some schlocky photoshop art head over to Esquire. You can also read about Jessica Simpson’s make-up whoas. My favorite slice of this article has to be this quote:

Children’s advocates say Thundercats, like TMNT, Transformers, and the upcoming Care Bears movie, displays a lack of imagination that is harming the next generation of cartoon watchers. A group headed by Genndy Tarkovsky, the mind behind the Cartoon Network’s Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory, protested outside the studio gate, calling for more quality entertainment choices for kids.

It’s sad because it’s true…

Repo is Coming

Repo Logo

Fair warning, this is not for everyone, but if you have a seriously twisted side and penchant for the gore and overly dramatic signing, then Repo: The Genetic Opera might be for you. The skinny is that this is the theatrical adaptation of the (way) Off-Bradway musical of the same name. Basically, in a 2056 the world is full of pain-junkies and debauchery. People who can’t make the payments to GeneCo for their new organs must fear the Repo Man, who comes to take the organs back the hard way. The film gets it’s street cred from the fact that Darren Lynn Bousman of Saw fame is directing, but what I’m most stoked to see is Ogre from Skinny Puppy playing the dim-witted and effeminate Pavi Largo. With characters like like the Grave Robber and the Scalpel Sluts how could you not have a good time. Enjoy the show!

Your Sister’s a Suck-Monkey

Check out the new trailer for Lost Boys 2: The Tribe. This movie is sure to be a craptacular gore-fest. I will admit that I am a little excited to see this film, having been a fan of the original in all of it’s cheesy 80’s cliche glory.

Trailer for A Perfect Place

Here is the trailer for the upcoming short film entitled A Perfect Place. Directed by Derrick Scocchera and starring Mark Boone and Bill Moseley, this sorted little tale revolves around the aforementioned stars who play a couple of crooks looking for the “perfect place” to dispose of a body. This is all well and good, but the meat an potatoes of this film is the original soundtrack created by Mike Patton. The best part is that A Perfect Place will be released on March 11th direct to dvd through Ipecac and it will be packaged along with the the soundtrack. My initial reaction to the trailer is two-fold, the camera work reminds me a lot of David Lynch’s work, and the music sounds great. I can’t wait to catch this one.

So sit back and enjoy…

Link Dump—09.19.07

In the ongoing saga of Halo 3 fan-boy geekdom I’d like to present a couple of videos that pay homage to the Master Chief.

First up, we have The Halo 3 Hoedown by SarcasticGamer.com.

Next is Halo Nights by Team Tiger Awesome. This one strikes a chord in my old heart-strings, since my friend Rocky and I are known to bust out an NSYNC style Bye Bye Bye complete with quacky hand wave just for shiz-n-giggles.

And if that isn’t enough Halo fun, I highly recommend checking out the John 117 memorial over at the official Halo 3 website. Take the 360° tour of the battle for New Mombasa complete with first person accounts, and profiles of both UNSC and Covenant soldiers.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween

Rob Zombie's Halloween

So, Ivy and I did get a chance to check out the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween during our long weekend. In a word: BRUTAL, I was cringing within the first 10-15 minutes of the film. I must say that I enjoyed Halloween a lot more than Ivy did. Her take on it was that it was a) too trashy b) too gory. Which are both pretty accurate statements.

Rob Zombie’s (RZ) Myers family isn’t as clean cut as John Carpenter’s. Little Mikey has a stripper mommy, a drunk abusive stepfather, and a whore-in-training big sister. This aspect of the film is what I loved the most—the amount of detail put into Michael’s back-story. RZ added so much depth to the character, you almost felt sympathy for him at times. Here’s a kid who lived such a shit-hole life that it’s no wonder that he turns into a homicidal maniac. You could almost call it a prequel to all the other Halloween films.
