I’m bringing the fun-love’n vidoes left and right today. This one is the new video Marnie Stern’s Ruler from her album who’s title is too long for me to remember. Personally, it’s one of my favorite tracks from said album. I’m not entirely sure what to make of the video other than it’s a play on Rocky, but there are some terribly cute and fluffy puppies about halfway through it. via
Here’s the new video for Basket Ball Get Your Groove Back from Deerhoof’s latest album Offend Maggie. As Deerhoof has a way of doing, this track has brightened my day, so I want to spread the love, enjoy. via
Here’s the trailer for latest rehash of an old idea, Friday the 13th. As if this franchise hasn’t been run completely into the ground (Manhattan, Space???) Michael Bay has decided to lend a hand in resurrecting the hockey-masked menace one more time. All cynicism aside, I’m actually looking forward to checking this out. I’m a fan of the series and a glutton for punishment. Plus, the release date could hardly be more perfect, Friday, February 13th 2009. So guys if you are looking to get some action on Valentine’s day, be sure to take your lady out to see this flick.
You wouldn’t think it, but slavery is still alive and well, and the documentary Call + Response from Director/Producer Justin Dillon—along with a number of musician, actors and experts—aims to raise awareness of the atrocities that are occurring right under our noses.
CALL+RESPONSE is a first of its kind feature documentary film that reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets: there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE goes deep undercover where slavery is thriving from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India to reveal that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.
Luminaries on the issue such as Cornel West, Madeleine Albright, Daryl Hannah, Julia Ormond, Ashley Judd, Nicholas Kristof, and many other prominent political and cultural figures offer first hand account of this 21st century trade. Performances from Grammy-winning and critically acclaimed artists including Moby, Natasha Bedingfield, Cold War Kids, Matisyahu, Imogen Heap, Talib Kweli, Five For Fighting, Switchfoot, members of Nickel Creek and Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, Rocco Deluca move this chilling information into inspiration for stopping it.
Here’s a couple things to help liven up your Thursday.
First off is a track from Marnie Stern, she plays some pretty catchy mathcore rock. It’s fun, uptempo music to start your night off right.
It never fails to amaze me that people can get even creepier than they already are. Here is an interview that Matt Lauer did with women who collect “Unliving Dolls” which are eerily lifelike/lifesize baby dolls that cost upwards of $4,000. The saddest bit is that some of these women treat the dolls like real children. via
The rumor mill has it that NetFlix might allow streaming to Macs by year’s end. This is good news for people who don’t want to run Parallels/Windows just to watch movies on their Mac. For those who don’t want to hold their breath on a rumor, you can already watch a smattering of flicks on Hulu.com, or if you are a NetFlix member with an Xbox 360 you could just wait until November when their Fall Update hits the street. If this rumor turns out to be true, my question is how will this effect Apples iTunes video service? via
Remember to watch the Vice Presidential Debates tonight. They start at 8pm Central Time, and are airing on pretty much all of the major networks.
It’s about that time of year again when ghosts and ghouls break free from their fetid slumber to haunt the dark misty streets. It’s also the time of year I dig out my “Halloween” music, you know the usual: The Misfits, White Zombie/Rob Zombie, some Cradle of Filth just for starters. It’s also the time of year I start looking for some new monster-rock to add to my collection. Last year for instance I found Lordi, and before that Stolen Babies both excellent band in their own right.
It looks as if this year’s search will be no less fruitful. I’ve already discovered one such new(ish) band, Creature Feature. While their latest album The Greatest Show Unearthed was released last year on October 30, it’s still new to me. Creature Feature is a horror-rock duo consisting of vocalist Curtis RX and organist Erik X. They have a classic spook-rock sound, that’s heavy on maniacal funhouse organ grinding and distorted guitars. The most immediate comparison that I can draw is that they are a bit like a mash-up of Idiot Flesh and Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas with quirky uptempo songs with fiendish subject matter. My affinity for zombies has naturally drawn me to Aim For The Head, the second track on their album. Anyone who’s seen a George Romero film knows exactly what their talking about here.
