iThulhu

If ever there where a reason to run out and buy an iPhone/iPod-Touch then this is it. Digital Jokers and Mayhem Studios are summoning the terror Cthulhu from his abysmal slumber and dropping him right into the palm of your hand with the iPort of The Call of Cthulhu: The Darkness Within.

The Legend of Neil: Episode 2

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. The Legend of Neil is a Zelda spoof on Atom.com, where a slacker finds himself stuck in the world of Hyrule after blacking out in the midst of debasing himself. This is Episode 2: First Blood, for more fun with Neil check out episodes 1 and 3.

The moral here kids is if you’re gonna do that sort of thing, make sure you have a spotter.

Random News, Some New Some Old

The Odd Couple

  • Weta is releasing a series of sculptures based on the Halo universe. They all look very snazzy, like the above photo featuring the 25 century’s odd couple, Master Chief and the Arbiter. Weta is also auctioning four one-of-a-kind silver statues to celebrate the occasion.
  • In movie news, fans of the Harold and Kumar films might be happy to note that a third film is in the works. via
  • Fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show will likely be dismayed that MTV is remaking the beloved classic, using the original script, and some songs that had been cut from the film some 30+ years ago. via
  • This is a little old, but it’s new to me. Famed gritty comic writer Warren Ellis has penned the script for an animated GI Joe series titled GI JOE: RESOLUTE. This is supposed to be a darker, more adult oriented version of the Joes in a style reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell. Warren Ellis posted a blurb about it on his blog last week. The shiniest gem can be found bellow.

HASBRO: No, Warren, you cannot wipe Beijing from the face of the earth.

ME: Shit. (pause) What about Moscow?

HASBRO: Wiping Moscow from the face of the earth would be fine.

  • If the new GI Joe film has you excited, or you are just in the mood for a chuckle, you can keep tabs on the man himself. Yes that’s right, Cobra Commander tweets.

Netflix + Xbox 360 = Warm Fuzzies

It was just announced at E308 that Xbox and Netflix have formed a—long rumored—partnership that would allow Xbox Live members to use their consoles to view Netflix’s “instant view” titles through their dashboard. One word, two syllables: HOORAY!!!

That’s all I had to say, now get back to work slacker. :P

Video Game Videos

Here’s a couple videos for your viewing pleasure. The first one is the spoilerific new trailer for Lucas Art’s latest attempt to milk the Star Wars franchise, Force Unleashed. So far, everything I have seen about this game is awesome, and this trailer is no different.

Next up is the recently leaked trailer for the film adaptation of Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg. 9 out of 10 film adaptations of games generally suck, but Max Payne actually looks like a pretty good film.

***EDIT***
Bungie just posted this video of a real Halo fanboy.

This is a totally awesome find because I was just tasked with trying to figure out what is currently hip in “youth culture”, and I think I’ve been schooled. It does kind of remind me of the bit from Arrested Development where George Michael films himself acting out a lightsaber cough-curtain rod-cough battle in the garage. If anyone can find that clip please send it my way for comparison.

Ninja Gaiden 2

Ninja Gaiden 2

So, I downloaded and played the demo for Ninja Gaiden 2 the other night, and—big surprise—it was awesome. You get a couple of weapons to start off with that are pretty fun to mess around with, my favorite of those would be the Eclipse Scythe, it’s giant and does plenty of damage. About half-way through the demo you get the Lunar Staff and that kicks plenty of ass too. It’s a little lighter on the damage, but it has a fast attack speed and if you get a moment before a fight you can power it up for a super-attack. With auto health regeneration I didn’t have to use any of the little power ups that you pick up along the way either. The pacing was pretty good in this regard, fight-regenerate-fight-regenerate and so on. I think the only thing that bugged me about the demo was that the camera seemed a little wonky. I just don’t think to tap the button that auto centers the camera angle in the middle of a fight, so there were a couple of times that I couldn’t see anything in front of me. Luckily, blindly hitting the attack button while readjusting the camera seemed to minimize the damage. All in all the demo was worth the DL, and will eventually lead to a trip to my local GameStop to pick up a copy for myself, just as soon as I finish up TimeShift, Mass Effect, Doom 3, and Call of Cthulhu.

First Peek at GoW2

mmmmmmmmm, This is the first in-game footage of Gears of War 2 to hit the intertubes. This looks even more bad-assed as the first Gears of War.

For a list of what makes this footage awesome, check out 360 Fanboy’s post.

Link Dump—11.4.07

The great time change is now upon us, hazah! For most that would mean an extra hour of sleep, but for me this means that it’s 6 a.m. and I’m steadily on my way to my third cup of coffee. The problem—if you can call it such—is that I awoke from one of those awful high school flashback dreams where you are running late for school and you haven’t even started your big homework project. Those dreams are too messed up to even consider going back to sleep. So, I get up, check the clock which reads 5:30-ish which sounds reasonable enough to me. I plod downstairs and turn on the coffee pot on my way to the office where I discover upon juicing up my mac that it is actually 4:30 (not 5:30) a.m.. Well, it’s too late now, the coffee’s on and besides all those people I’ve mentally suppressed are waiting to get me back in dreamland, so here I am…

I know one guy who is going to be super stoked to see this new in-game footage from Bioware’s upcoming sci-fi rpg Mass Effect, available November 20th on the Xbox 360 . The video is just a quick snippet of soldier class combat, but the graphics are super tasty and the combat controls look awesome.
