In an act of redundancy, Adobe announced that they will be announcing the release of yet another version of their ubiquitous design software. Adobe will be unveiling CS4 on September 23 via a series of webcasts. You can sign up for one of the webcasts here. The announcement of a new creative suit is a double edged sword for those companies who just upgraded to CS3 and are just now getting the handle on it. Still, I am rather excited to see what they’ve come up with this time around.

There will be another film adaptations of one of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut’s short story Harrison Bergeron titled 2081. The basic premiss is that everyone is supposed to be equal, those who show extrordinary skill in any particular area are given handicaps to bring them down a notch. For instance strong men wear weights, smart people get ear pieces that emit loud noises whenever they think too hard, and the beautiful wear masks. Then there is Harrison who is strong, handsome and smart and he is the one who finally stands up and fights back against the system that enforces this equality. Anyway, it’s a good story, and from the trailer it looks like they might actually do a better job than the 1995 adaptation that starred Sean Astin.

Lately it seems like I’ve been hearing Atlas on KRNU almost every time I get into my car. It’s such a great tune that I feel compelled to share it with you and you and even you. Actually the entire album is pretty great, so if you don’t have it already you might want to check it out. I can attest that whenever I’m in a particularly jaggedy mood, I pop on some Battles and it cheers me right up. I won’t go so far as to say that Battles has mystical healing properties, but more than a few people are alive and well today because of these tunes.

Wal-Mart is urging the gaming industry to think green. At a “green gaming summit” Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club gaming buyer Joe Muha had a few suggestions on how to make gaming more eco-friendly. Mr. Muha’s list included some good suggestions such as developing consoles with low-power/sleep modes, as well as replacing the plastic dvd style packaging with a cardboard alternative.
via

In slightly bleaker news, it appears that there is quite a drug-culture within the world of pro gaming. The best part is that nobody really seems to care. According to the article there is a duality in the way drugs are used during tournaments. Some players bring weed along for the after-parties, while others are using amphetamines to enhance their performance in-game. Granted these aren’t exactly the olympic games, but some of the corporate sponsors might want to consider the kind of publicity they will get with such flippant disregard for the health and safety of the kids competing in their tournaments. It’s called plausible deniability and this article just shot that defense out of the water.

Another trailer for Max Payne was recently released, it’s a lot like the last trailer, but this one is set to Marilyn Manson’s “If I Was Your Vampire.” I think the trailer actually makes this song suck just a little bit less. Anyway, the movie still looks to be aces so enjoy.
